Literacy Changes Our World Initiative at Dillard Elementary

Dillard Elementary School participated in The Florida Department of Education’s 9th annual Literacy Week in Florida from January 23-27th, 2017.

15 Volunteers from our local Fort Lauderdale community joined Ranger Good Works in reading storybooks to Pre-K through  2nd-grade students at Dillard Elementary.  Volunteers spent about 30-45 minutes reading to students in the classroom.

“The Cow That Went Oink!” and “I name is Yoon” were big hits!

Join us in our year-long literacy campaign at Dillard Elementary. Less than one hour a day, once a month, could help change a student’s world. Please click here to volunteer.

Thank you for your continued support!

Ranger Good Works Dr. Seuss

Dr. Seuss Literacy Night at Dillard Elementary

For the 4th year in a row, Ranger Good Works supported the “Build Your Home Library” initiative during the Dr. Seuss themed Literacy Night at Dillard Elementary School. The Dillard Dance Academy and the Dillard Drumline entertained the entire crowd with their exceptional talents. 11 volunteers dressed up as characters from the famous Dr. Seuss story books. Every family who attended went to their child’s classroom to hear about what is being taught to their children, and 1000 books were given out to these participating families.  Thank you to all of our donors and volunteers for helping make this night magical!

Read For The Record

Read For The Record at Dillard Elementary

On October 27th , Victoria Ranger went back to school – as a volunteer at Dillard Elementary School! Ranger participated in the worldwide Jumpstart Read For The Record event by reading “The Bear Ate Your Sandwich” to eager kindergarteners. Broward Schools had readers volunteer to take part in the biggest read-aloud event in the world.

The Dillard Elementary Kindergarteners loved story telling time! Especially after Mrs. Ranger gave in to read the story a second time, while the students ate strawberries and blueberries just like the bear did before going to sleep and embarking on his journey to find “the sandwich.”

Volunteers are worth their weight in gold. Each volunteer shared their time and talents with the children – and what an outstanding job everyone did! The students really responded to each of our volunteers, and that is due to the volunteers’ patience. The volunteers’ generosity and support exposed the children of Dillard Elementary to the wonderful professional possibilities awaiting them through hard work and studies.

Victoria Ranger and Angela Brown “Life Work Leadership Compassion Tour 2016”

Compassion Tour – Victoria Ranger and Angela Brown presented to the Life Work Leadership Class of 2016

Ranger Technical Resources and Dillard Elementary School were selected by the City of Ft. Lauderdale’s City Manager, Lee Feldman, as the city’s choice for an influential Case Study within their Compassion Tour for the Lifework Leadership of South Florida.  On January 8, 2016 Ms. Ranger and Ms. Brown presented the Ranger Good Works program to over 122 business leaders and city officials, describing how the partnership between the public and private sector has made a positive change by altering the direction of the school.  Dillard Elementary is a Broward County Public School – part of the largest school district in the United States.

District 5 School Board Member Dr. Rosalind Osgood shared with attendees the fact that Ms. Brown had received the Prestigious Caliber Award as “Principal of the Year” for Broward County in April 2015.  Ms. Brown acknowledged Ms. Ranger’s contribution and together, they received a standing ovation for their work in the community.

“The Compassion Tour was intended to engage people’s hearts, provide them with a window to become aware of actual needs within the community and inspire them to become involved!”  Amanda Forman, Program Director said. “Our mission was accomplished. The Ranger-Dillard story and what the team is doing is truly inspiring.”

Ms. Ranger and Ms. Brown’s shared goals are to raise awareness of the “reality of life” for a number of school children in Fort Lauderdale. They continue to encourage those within the community to realize that any act of kindness by one individual to another, especially to children, can make a difference in the world of a child.  They asked those in attendance to be generous and have the courage to lead others by helping any school with their students. There is great opportunity throughout the city of Ft. Lauderdale and everywhere in the United States to provide students with a better educational experience.

Our words of the day…..Compassion, Love and Give… To be continued!

Hour of Code presented by Ranger Technical Resources & Ranger Good Works was a great success!

Hour of Code – December 2015

Ranger Good Works had a fan-tas-tech team show up to support us for the Computer Science Education Week and CODE.ORG Hour of Code initiative held at Dillard Elementary School. 36 Volunteers walked out of the session proudly wearing a ‪#‎BrowardCodes‬ – “I coded, did you?” sticker.

Without a doubt, every helping hand left their assigned classrooms with a smile on their face, knowing they made a big impact on our community’s children.  Learning to code and be more informed about Computer Science is critical to our youth. In today’s world, everything runs on software. The next generation will be faced with a world focused even more on the digital world than today. What we taught at Dillard Elementary was not only coding. Some lessons included computational thinking (i.e., mathematics, logic and algorithms). The instructors focused the children on problem solving in small thought out pieces to eventually solve bigger problems.  The interaction with the volunteers during this initiative gave the students encouragement that they could do anything if they put their minds to it. Coding and computational thinking are used in many different careers today.  We are proud to have been able to provide this opportunity to our chosen elementary school in the sixth largest school district in the United States *Broward County Public Schools – Ft. Lauderdale, Florida).

Thanks to a great team: Ranger Technical Resources, DHL, Broward College, Spelling City, Nova Southeastern University, Broward County Clerk of Courts, Sitters in a Second, Giant Titan, Merrill Lynch, C&I Studios and several other amazing companies.
