Hour of Code at Dillard Elementary December 2016

Hour of Code – December 2016

For the 4th year in a row, Ranger Good Works had an outstanding team show up to volunteer with us for Computer Science Education Week and the CODE.ORG Hour of Code initiative held at Dillard Elementary School.

Over 800 K-5 students participated in both “Unplugged” (paper activities and commanding people to move like robots) and computer “Plugged” coding programs on their tech devices. Even after the sounding of the bell to end their session, the students and volunteers didn’t want to stop. One eager and talented coder stated, “I have been waiting all year for The Hour of Code and was dreaming about this day since we did it last year!”  Volunteers walked out of the session proudly wearing a #BrowardCodes sticker to show their participation in a wonderfully productive and fulfilling coding event.

Thank you to everyone who supports Ranger Good Works in our effort to give the students at Dillard Elementary the 3 T’s –  Time Talent Treasure!

Our Partners included Dillard Elementary Staff, Ranger Technical Resources, Van Dutch, Vocabulary/Spelling City, Wells Fargo, Safety Guys, Broward County Clerk of Courts, Giant Titan, Yachting Today, Casbah Spa and several others amazing volunteers.

Ranger Good Works hosted the Love to Give fundraiser kick-off on November 15th in partnership with Neiman Marcus at The Galleria at Fort Lauderdale.

More than 150 attendees came out for the affair, which marked the start of a month-long fundraising initiative presented by Ranger Good Works in partnership with Neiman Marcus Fort Lauderdale. From November 15th through December 24, 2016, ten percent of all sales generated by the retailer’s exclusive Love to Give collection benefited Ranger Good Works in support of funding youth arts education and programs at Dillard Elementary School in Fort Lauderdale.

Guests of the event were treated to an exclusive preview of the luxury items featured in this year’s Neiman Marcus Love to Give collection, in addition to outstanding performances by the Dillard Drum Line, Dance Academy, and Choir. Attendees were also able to peruse an array of unique self-portraits of the students on display, created in collaboration with artists at the Young At Art Museum (YAA) who volunteered their time and expertise to work hand-in-hand with the students on the project.

Every family who attended went to their child’s classroom to hear about what is being taught to their children, and 1000 books were given out to these participating families.  Thank you to all of our donors and volunteers for helping make this night magical!

Read For The Record

Read For The Record at Dillard Elementary

On October 27th , Victoria Ranger went back to school – as a volunteer at Dillard Elementary School! Ranger participated in the worldwide Jumpstart Read For The Record event by reading “The Bear Ate Your Sandwich” to eager kindergarteners. Broward Schools had readers volunteer to take part in the biggest read-aloud event in the world.

The Dillard Elementary Kindergarteners loved story telling time! Especially after Mrs. Ranger gave in to read the story a second time, while the students ate strawberries and blueberries just like the bear did before going to sleep and embarking on his journey to find “the sandwich.”

Fifth grade students spent four days and three nights at the Florida Atlantic University Boca Raton Campus.  The students had an opportunity to learn what it is like to be a college student staying in the dormitories, attending classes on campus and eating in the dining hall.  The professors and graduate students at FAU designed a special curriculum for our exceptional Dillard Elementary students.

The amazing Department of Curriculum, Culture and Educational Inquiry created a program just for our students:  STEAM for Social Justice: using Inquiry Skills to Create Changes in Your World. The students were broken down into two groups and gave “Shark Tank Presentations” on June 3rd 2016.

Dr. Corey King, Vice President for Student Affairs gave a nice welcome to visitors there to witness the Pitches & Presentations from the students. The students presented their company and their product/service and fielded questions from the panel of sharks. Sharks included Tony Ash, James Engstrom, Ana Escuder, PHD, Whitney Rawls, and Chief Constance Stanley.

As a result of super team work headed by Dr. Traci P. Baxley, numerous FAU Faculty and students, 8 staff from Dillard Elementary headed by Mrs Angela Brown and funding from our Ranger Good Works donors, the event was an outstanding success!!!

Volunteers are worth their weight in gold. Each volunteer shared their time and talents with the children – and what an outstanding job everyone did! The students really responded to each of our volunteers, and that is due to the volunteers’ patience. The volunteers’ generosity and support exposed the children of Dillard Elementary to the wonderful professional possibilities awaiting them through hard work and studies.

Ranger Good Works

54th Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast Fort Lauderdale, FL

In March 2016, Ranger Good Works leaders Victoria Ranger and Angela Brown received recognition for their commitment to improve “the reality of life” for many school children in Fort Lauderdale, FL at the 54th Annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast presented by the National Christian Foundation South Florida.

Through the Ranger Good Works program, the National Christian Foundation of South Florida rallies business leaders and city officials to gorge public and private school partnerships, joining the struggle to improve our schools in underprivileged neighborhoods.  Their stories of hope, determination, and commitment energize audiences to engage in acts of kindness and generosity, especially toward young students.

We feel blessed to be a part of such a wonderful and caring community!

Victoria Ranger and Angela Brown “Life Work Leadership Compassion Tour 2016”

Compassion Tour – Victoria Ranger and Angela Brown presented to the Life Work Leadership Class of 2016

Ranger Technical Resources and Dillard Elementary School were selected by the City of Ft. Lauderdale’s City Manager, Lee Feldman, as the city’s choice for an influential Case Study within their Compassion Tour for the Lifework Leadership of South Florida.  On January 8, 2016 Ms. Ranger and Ms. Brown presented the Ranger Good Works program to over 122 business leaders and city officials, describing how the partnership between the public and private sector has made a positive change by altering the direction of the school.  Dillard Elementary is a Broward County Public School – part of the largest school district in the United States.

District 5 School Board Member Dr. Rosalind Osgood shared with attendees the fact that Ms. Brown had received the Prestigious Caliber Award as “Principal of the Year” for Broward County in April 2015.  Ms. Brown acknowledged Ms. Ranger’s contribution and together, they received a standing ovation for their work in the community.

“The Compassion Tour was intended to engage people’s hearts, provide them with a window to become aware of actual needs within the community and inspire them to become involved!”  Amanda Forman, Program Director said. “Our mission was accomplished. The Ranger-Dillard story and what the team is doing is truly inspiring.”

Ms. Ranger and Ms. Brown’s shared goals are to raise awareness of the “reality of life” for a number of school children in Fort Lauderdale. They continue to encourage those within the community to realize that any act of kindness by one individual to another, especially to children, can make a difference in the world of a child.  They asked those in attendance to be generous and have the courage to lead others by helping any school with their students. There is great opportunity throughout the city of Ft. Lauderdale and everywhere in the United States to provide students with a better educational experience.

Our words of the day…..Compassion, Love and Give… To be continued!

Ranger Good Works

Hour of Code presented by Ranger Technical Resources & Ranger Good Works was a great success!

Hour of Code – December 2015

Ranger Good Works had a fan-tas-tech team show up to support us for the Computer Science Education Week and CODE.ORG Hour of Code initiative held at Dillard Elementary School. 36 Volunteers walked out of the session proudly wearing a ‪#‎BrowardCodes‬ – “I coded, did you?” sticker.

Without a doubt, every helping hand left their assigned classrooms with a smile on their face, knowing they made a big impact on our community’s children.  Learning to code and be more informed about Computer Science is critical to our youth. In today’s world, everything runs on software. The next generation will be faced with a world focused even more on the digital world than today. What we taught at Dillard Elementary was not only coding. Some lessons included computational thinking (i.e., mathematics, logic and algorithms). The instructors focused the children on problem solving in small thought out pieces to eventually solve bigger problems.  The interaction with the volunteers during this initiative gave the students encouragement that they could do anything if they put their minds to it. Coding and computational thinking are used in many different careers today.  We are proud to have been able to provide this opportunity to our chosen elementary school in the sixth largest school district in the United States *Broward County Public Schools – Ft. Lauderdale, Florida).

Thanks to a great team: Ranger Technical Resources, DHL, Broward College, Spelling City, Nova Southeastern University, Broward County Clerk of Courts, Sitters in a Second, Giant Titan, Merrill Lynch, C&I Studios and several other amazing companies.

Neiman Marcus Love To Give Fundraiser: December 2015
