Ranger Good Works

Hour of Code presented by Ranger Technical Resources & Ranger Good Works was a great success!

Hour of Code – December 2015

Ranger Good Works had a fan-tas-tech team show up to support us for the Computer Science Education Week and CODE.ORG Hour of Code initiative held at Dillard Elementary School. 36 Volunteers walked out of the session proudly wearing a ‪#‎BrowardCodes‬ – “I coded, did you?” sticker.

Without a doubt, every helping hand left their assigned classrooms with a smile on their face, knowing they made a big impact on our community’s children.  Learning to code and be more informed about Computer Science is critical to our youth. In today’s world, everything runs on software. The next generation will be faced with a world focused even more on the digital world than today. What we taught at Dillard Elementary was not only coding. Some lessons included computational thinking (i.e., mathematics, logic and algorithms). The instructors focused the children on problem solving in small thought out pieces to eventually solve bigger problems.  The interaction with the volunteers during this initiative gave the students encouragement that they could do anything if they put their minds to it. Coding and computational thinking are used in many different careers today.  We are proud to have been able to provide this opportunity to our chosen elementary school in the sixth largest school district in the United States *Broward County Public Schools – Ft. Lauderdale, Florida).

Thanks to a great team: Ranger Technical Resources, DHL, Broward College, Spelling City, Nova Southeastern University, Broward County Clerk of Courts, Sitters in a Second, Giant Titan, Merrill Lynch, C&I Studios and several other amazing companies.

Special Initiative November through January – holiday giving – Please donate today!

Ranger Good Works is collecting donations to help supply 1000 students with care packages for the holidays.  Food, clothing, hygiene products, toys and books are needed.

We are painfully aware of the need that exists through the student population at Dillard Elementary.  Join us in aiding those in need during the holiday months.  Ranger Good Works will give gift baskets during Thanksgiving as well as food and gifts during the Christmas and Hanukah celebration times.  We are not a food bank, but we certainly know where we can guide you in your giving.  We’ve established a giving fund and a donation drop off for this time.  The appropriate people at the school will assist in distribution.

Literacy Night at Dillard Elementary

Literacy Night at Dillard Elementary

Literacy Night Dillard Elementary sponsored by Ranger Good Works

A majority of Dillard’s students are entering kindergarten lacking reading readiness skills.  Very few parents read to their children and they rarely visit the library. Dillard Elementary is providing multiple strategies to close the literacy gap.

Build-a-Home Library is once again the theme for this year literacy’s initiative.  This is a school wide/family/engagement initiative for all students from prekindergarten through fifth grade.  This literacy initiative is specially designed to foster literacy independence in young children and to bridge the literacy deficit gap from school to home by giving each child their first book to begin a personalized home library.

What’s needed:
$2,500.00 or the following items:

  • Books New or Used
  • Educational Material
  • Halloween Costumes (total of 50 sizes from 3T, 4T, 5, 6)

Click donate to assist us in purchasing books and costumes for the children. Imagine – with your donation they will be lucky to have one or two books in their home.

Donations are needed before October 28th, 2015

THE MIAMI HEAT WENT “BACK TO SCHOOL” AT DILLARD ELEMENTARY

Amar’e Stoudemire & HEAT Staff Distributed School Supplies & Gifts to Students

The Miami HEAT kicked off the 2015-16 school year in Broward County by welcoming back the students and teachers at Dillard Elementary School today. HEAT player Amar’e Stoudemire along with HEAT mascot, Burnie, and Uptown Dale hosted a pep rally at the school and distributed backpacks and other school supplies. Broward County Public Schools Superintendent Robert W. Runcie, Florida State District 31 Senator, Christopher L. Smith, Vice Mayor of the City of Fort Lauderdale and District 3 Commissioner, Robert L. McKinzie, Florida State District 94, Representative Bobby B. Dubose as well as caring School Board Members and Victoria Ranger from Ranger Good Works were in attendance. The HEAT selected Dillard Elementary School because of its great academic accomplishments and the strong support it receives from the community and dedicated staff. Under the leadership of Principal Angela Brown, winner of the 2015 Broward County Public Schools Caliber Award for Principal of the Year, Dillard Elementary School has increased enrollment by 100% in three years to over 800 students in 2014-15. Dillard Elementary was also recently removed from the lowest 100 performing school list in the State of Florida, as academic growth was shown in all the areas of reading, math and science. The school has also created a variety of beneficial programs for their students, including a program giving students the opportunity to tour major universities and mentoring programs ensuring that students receive the skills needed for their future. *We look forward to another exciting school year at Dillard Elementary. One lucky child was awarded a scholarship for the summer art program. In an effort to aid in keeping children engaged in after school programs and foster creativity from them RGW has made a commitment to give scholarships.  To participate or donate to the summer arts scholarship program contact us.

FAT Village and Ranger Good Works partner for Dillard Elementary and the City of Ft. Lauderdale
The City of Ft. Lauderdale is an official “All America City” title holder. It is Ranger Good Works’ pleasure to lend a hand when called upon and ask for help from the community to support our youth. We are planning an event to showcase just how big our city’s heart is by painting a mural in the FAT Village Art District (downtown Ft. Lauderdale). The mural will be painted by a local artist and several students from Dillard’s Art Program and will be unveiled during the reception. You’re invited to share this experience with us and enjoy live entertainment, performances from Dillard and much more. This event is free and open to the public, therefore, invite your friends and family!

Career City 2015

On Thursday, May 7, 2015 we accomplished our goal by delivering on the promise to inspire and show the students that they have a future. Although they are young, they can dream and work hard to achieve their goals bringing their dreams to fruition. Throughout the day we heard students say “this is the best day of my life”; “I can’t believe how big the city really is” and “I never got this many presents, even on my birthday.” Several comments I heard about were, “I love to draw… I didn’t know I could become an architect. I’m good at drawing. I think I can be an architect!” (Martin Architects); “I love to play games. I didn’t know I could have a job coding games, I want to be a programmer.” (Nova Southeastern University – Computer Science School); “I love clothes; I’m going to work at Neiman Marcus.” (Neiman Marcus) and “Mrs. Ranger, do you think I can be a drummer like the kids on the stage from Parkway Middle School?” My answer was “yes, talk to Mr. Morrison about it and I bet he can help you get started now.” (Victoria Ranger).

With these positive thoughts, we will close by saying thank you again! Thank you for trusting us and for investing your time in our program. We look forward to having you join us again next year for our third annual Career City at Dillard Elementary.

Junior Welfare Society Visits Dillard

Junior Welfare Society visited Dillard Elementary School.

Lots of helping hands and eyes were there to aid the young students in reading. Thank you Junior Welfare Society!

On April 28, 2015 Ranger Good Works and Dillard Elementary hosted a visit for several members of the Junior Welfare Society. The wonderful members brought donations, read books to the young students and even helped the administrative team organize the science lab. A big “thank you” goes out to all of them for the love, hugs and smiles given, the great amount of hands on support and the financial support given for the literacy and technology initiatives.
