North Fork Elementary is building academic success for underprivileged students
SUCCESS THROUGH DEDICATION
North Fork’s purpose is to provide a stimulating, safe and optimal learning environment that sets high expectations for each student to become creative, responsible and productive individuals. Its goal is to meet the needs of every child academically, socially and emotionally.
North Fork Elementary School, founded in 1948, is located in the Historic Dorsey River Bend community. It serves a predominantly lower socio-economic community. It educates more than 428 ambitious, young students.
North Fork Elementary has begun a new and improved era of positive change and influence for their students.
DEDICATION AND COMPASSION
Community Inspiration
North Fork Elementary has begun an improved era of positive change and influence for its students. Thanks to the dedication of a compassionate and committed staff of teachers and assistants, the students are flourishing under the diligent efforts of Principal Gretchen Atkins-Brown. Gretchen Atkins-Brown is the Proud Principal of North Fork Elementary School, located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She is a career educator who displays a passion for teaching and is an innovator in changing the lives of young children. Her career spans over 24 years, serving children, and she spent 14 of those years working as an administrator in fragile schools.
As a principal, with the full support and participation of staff, Mrs. Brown launched and executed a comprehensive action plan that resulted in improved student test scores, and the school moved from an “F” to a grade of “B”. With her infectious “can-do” attitude, Ms. Brown is looking forward to leading the students and staff of North Fork Elementary to greater excellence. Mrs. Brown’s passion for inspiring North Fork students is strong, with support from partners like Ranger Good Work.
Working side by side with North Fork Elementary, Ranger Good Works has developed programs and events to help stimulate students’ ambitions and creativity, immersing them in hands-on experiences with local artistic industries and arts, music, and environmental workshops.
One such program with a huge impression and impact on our students is the Art Exposure Club. This program is designed to aid in giving the students the ability to grow through their intellectual and creative curiosity by engaging them with hands-on activities and community exposure to Art.
Working together hand in hand through the pandemic and since 2019, Ranger Good Works has solidified its community bond with student leadership teams at North Fork Elementary!
“North Fork Elementary has improved from a school letter grade of “F” to a grade of “B” in just 3 years. ELA and Math Proficiency have consistently increased for the past 3 years!” – Gretchen Atkins-Brown, Principal
