Broward College Tour 2014

Ranger Good Works, with our friend, John P. Hart, Chair of the Broward College Foundation, was able to connect with Broward College to arrange a college tour for the 5thgraders of Dillard Elementary School. Our hope is when students are exposed to college at an early age they will start thinking about the future of their education and careers.

Over one-hundred wide-eyed students entered Broward College’s A. Hugh Central Campus to tour the Health Sciences Simulator Center and the Buehler Planetarium. They were greeted by college administrators and student ambassadors who gave a spectacular tour. The college mascot, Sammy the Seahawk, showed the students how to put their hands together to create the Seahawks hand gesture (see photos in our Event Gallery).

In the Health Sciences Simulation Center a team of doctors and nurses gave an overview of simulators. One was a human simulator on a gurney that could blink, breathe, and talk. Each student was given a pair of gloves and stethoscope with a heartbeat simulator attached enabling them to experience some of what it is like to be a nurse or doctor.

The tour concluded in the Buehler Planetarium, a state-of-the-art facility that features a 40-foot dome where videos of the cosmos are projected for everyone to see. The students were able to see stars that are impossible to see with the naked eye.

Events like these encourage students to pursue higher education – a necessary part of improving the community. Thank you to all of our sponsors for helping with these events, and an extra special thank you to John Hart and Broward College for making today’s college tour possible!

The Neiman Marcus Love to Give Collection – Holiday reception benefiting Dillard Elementary School

Neiman Marcus Love To Give 2014

Neiman Marcus Fort Lauderdale and Ranger Good Works presented The Love to Give Collection on Wednesday, November 5th, 2014. This event kicked off a fundraising endeavor that will last through December 24th, during which time 10% of all sales generated from items in The Love to Give Collection will benefit Ranger Good Works in support of Dillard Elementary School.

During the reception, an undecorated Holiday tree came to life with every donation. We made it bright and beautiful for the 900 underprivileged students of Dillard Elementary School. Together we are changing the lives of these students by meeting their basic needs, giving them love, and augmenting the educational tools they so desperately need.

The Young At Art museum volunteered their artists and time to assist in the creation of a masterpiece with the students from Dillard which was on display during the event. Attendees enjoyed the outstanding performances from the Impact Girls, the Eagles Step Team, the Dillard Drum Line, and Ms. Marguerita’s Dancers. The Martin Men wowed the crowd with their charming manners while serving chocolates and smiles.

Thank you to all who attended and all who continue to support our efforts!

Fun at Fin tank!

Our Ranger Super Coders group had the opportunity to participate in the 1st Hack-a-thon and Teach-a-thon held at the Sun Life Stadium, co-sponsored by Microsoft and Citrix, called the Fin Tank 2014. The students had fun learning some web-coding basics from volunteer programmers from Citrix. Afterwards, Ben Greaves, account executive with the Miami Dolphins, took the students on a tour of Sun Life Stadium so they could see where the Miami Dolphins practice and play.

Literacy Night at Dillard Elementary

literacy night 1

Ranger Good Works had the pleasure of supporting Literacy Night at Dillard Elementary School. Every seat in the auditorium was taken! The Step Team and the Drum-line entertained the entire crowd with their exceptional talents. The energy and enthusiasm in the room was contagious! Our members donated over 1,000 books which were given out to all of the attending families. Our members also donated the costumes that were worn by the pre-kindergarten students and many of the kindergartners.

We are so happy to hear that our efforts have contributed to REAL LIFE IMPROVEMENT for the children of Dillard. This year’s FCAT scores increased across all subjects school-wide: Science from 21% to 27%, Reading from 30% to 39%, Math from 32% to 45%, and Writing from 38% to 51%.

Ranger Super Coders Visited Nova Southeastern University

Dillard Students Visited Nova Southeastern University

Dillard Students Visited Nova Southeastern University

We are excited about our partnership with Nova Southeastern University and support from our community sponsors! We took 40 Ranger Super Coders on a field trip to tour the Graduate School of Computer and Information Science Department. The visit, for many of the students, was their first step onto a college campus. Our Tech Super Hero, Dean Ackerman gave the students a tour of his amazing computer collection, gave a supercharged Tech Talk, and instructed the students on how to build a solar powered robot. Afterword, we stopped off at the University Pit to be charged up with a slice of pizza. Students also toured the Alvin Sherman Library to discover what resources are available to them before heading back to school.

The Heart of Neiman Marcus

On July 19, Neiman Marcus stores across the country partnered local nonprofit charities involved in the arts and helping children. Neiman Marcus Fort Lauderdale in the Galleria Mall partnered with Ranger Good Works, a nonprofit organization that provides volunteer programs and resources for local communities’ most under-resourced populations, to host a shopping event benefiting Dillard Elementary School. Performances took place by Dillard Elementary School students involved in the school groups IMPACT Girls and the D Phi E Stepping Eagles as well as dancers from the Fort Lauderdale Parks Department’s Kuumba Arts Dance Academy. Through Young At Art Museum, Dillard Elementary School students also created butterflies, which are a signature of Neiman Marcus.

TEAMWORK was Ranger Technical Resources’ word of the day this past Saturday at the Heart of Neiman Marcus event held in Fort Lauderdale. Throughout the store you could find our team members lending a helping hand to all of the guests who came out to support Ranger Good Works and Dillard Elementary School. With smiles on our faces, we all had a heartwarming story to share with others about why we enjoy supporting Dillard.

Neiman Marcus opened their doors just for us at 9am, an hour earlier then their usual store hours. This allowed us to connect with our members while doing something exciting – SHOPPING! Not only did the Ranger Tech and Ranger Good Works team raise money by selling over 100 tickets to the event, they put on their networking shoes and gained new community friends and partners!

Ten percent of ALL the merchandise sales were donated to a great cause, the start of an Art Program for 800 deserving Dillard students. Ranger Tech and Ranger Good Works encouraged everyone to “Shop Til’ They Dropped” that day. At the end of the event, TEAMWORK really paid off! Neiman Marcus was so excited to share with us that our goal was exceeded and that Dillard Elementary School would be able to start their Art Program with an incredible amount of money!

KUDOS to Ranger Technical Resources and Ranger Good Works. We did it! WE made it happen because we all have a HEART!

Ranger Good Works held an amazing event the Heart of Neiman Marcus, Neiman Marcus Fort Lauderdale. We are raising funds to support youth arts education.  Special Thanks to Maya Ezratti, Maxi Ezratti, Jessica Ezratti, Diana Morrison, Mindy Shrago, Luda Brioch, Bonnie Barnett and many others for supporting us!

Career City 2014

The U goes to Dillard Elementary

The U goes to Dillard Elementary

On May 7th, 2014, Ranger Good Works brought the “City of Ft. Lauderdale” to the students of Dillard Elementary. Students were able to see firsthand what it feels like to take a walk through a safe and inviting city which had been created just for them. Students learned about various professions and many of our local industries during their walk. They engaged with professionals and had the chance to ask questions in a comfortable environment.  Ranger Good Works is building a Career City for the future of the students of Dillard Elementary.
