Career City 2018

Career City 2018 took place on Wednesday, May 23 2018.

At this event, students experienced firsthand what it felt like to take a walk through a safe and inviting city which had been created just for them for this special day. As they strolled through ‘Career City’, students learned about a wide variety of industries and engaged with professionals from our local businesses and organizations in a fun and inviting environment. After stepping out of Career City, they took the first steps on the roadmap to their future!

IMPORTANT FACTS

98% of Dillard Elementary students walk to school, are from single-parent homes and get their food intake while they are attending school. Most of the Dillard Elementary students have never traveled outside a five-mile radius of their neighborhood. Many of these students also never had the opportunity to walk into a real grocery store, an office supply store, a bank, a flower shop or even a restaurant. Dillard Elementary students are sweet, friendly and well behaved. The students have experienced a lack of exposure, so they want and need a chance to learn and grow.

With your help, we can fill Career City streets with an exciting group of industry professionals. This was the perfect opportunity to inspire the next generation of South Florida’s professionals.

Career City 2017 was Outstanding

Career City 2017 was Outstanding at Dillard Elementary!

73 companies and 219 volunteers and community partners showed up to teach students about their industry at Career City 2017.

Ranger Good Works, Dillard Elementary teachers, staff, students and I would like to personally give our attending companies and volunteers a ‘heartfelt thanks’ for the support they gave to Career City 2017 to help make it a HUGE success!

Our volunteers and participating companies shared their time and talent with our children, improving their lives by helping build their hopes and dreams for their future. They showed compassion, generosity, and were aware of the deep need to share their skills and knowledge with their students. This year’s Career City was our first “all grades inclusive” attempt at Career City, and it went just like it did last year. Outstanding!

To quote Martin Luther King, Jr.:   “Everybody can be great. Because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve…. You don’t have to know the second theory of thermodynamics in physics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace.  A soul generated by love. “

Without our many Ft. Lauderdale companies and volunteers, Career City wouldn’t have the success it does.

Hour of Code at Dillard Elementary December 2016

Hour of Code – December 2016

For the 4th year in a row, Ranger Good Works had an outstanding team show up to volunteer with us for Computer Science Education Week and the CODE.ORG Hour of Code initiative held at Dillard Elementary School.

Over 800 K-5 students participated in both “Unplugged” (paper activities and commanding people to move like robots) and computer “Plugged” coding programs on their tech devices. Even after the sounding of the bell to end their session, the students and volunteers didn’t want to stop. One eager and talented coder stated, “I have been waiting all year for The Hour of Code and was dreaming about this day since we did it last year!”  Volunteers walked out of the session proudly wearing a #BrowardCodes sticker to show their participation in a wonderfully productive and fulfilling coding event.

Thank you to everyone who supports Ranger Good Works in our effort to give the students at Dillard Elementary the 3 T’s –  Time Talent Treasure!

Our Partners included Dillard Elementary Staff, Ranger Technical Resources, Van Dutch, Vocabulary/Spelling City, Wells Fargo, Safety Guys, Broward County Clerk of Courts, Giant Titan, Yachting Today, Casbah Spa and several others amazing volunteers.
