Join us: Career City at Dillard

Join us: Career City at Dillard Elementary is Wednesday, May 17, 2017

Please join Ranger Good Works in bringing the “city of Ft. Lauderdale” to the students of Dillard Elementary.  Students will see firsthand what it feels like to take a walk through a safe and inviting city which has been created just for them.  Students will learn about various professions and many of our local industries during their walk.  They will engage with professionals and have the chance to ask questions in a comfortable environment.  They will also step out of Career City with a road map to future possibilities.

With your help we will be able to motivate the youth and show them that through hard work and academic achievement, professional success is an option that can be attained right down the street!

Please participate by sharing your success story and representing your industry, field of work or organization.

{IMPORTANT FACTS }

  • 98% of the students walk to school, are from single parent homes and get their food intake while they are attending school.
  • Most of the Dillard Elementary students have never traveled outside of a five-mile radius.
  • Many of the students have never had the opportunity to walk into a real grocery store, an office supply store, a bank, a flower shop or even a restaurant.
  • The students are sweet, friendly and well behaved. The students have a lack of exposure, they want and need a chance to learn and grow.

Fifth grade students spent four days and three nights at the Florida Atlantic University Boca Raton Campus.  The students had an opportunity to learn what it is like to be a college student staying in the dormitories, attending classes on campus and eating in the dining hall.  The professors and graduate students at FAU designed a special curriculum for our exceptional Dillard Elementary students.

The amazing Department of Curriculum, Culture and Educational Inquiry created a program just for our students:  STEAM for Social Justice: using Inquiry Skills to Create Changes in Your World. The students were broken down into two groups and gave “Shark Tank Presentations” on June 3rd 2016.

Dr. Corey King, Vice President for Student Affairs gave a nice welcome to visitors there to witness the Pitches & Presentations from the students. The students presented their company and their product/service and fielded questions from the panel of sharks. Sharks included Tony Ash, James Engstrom, Ana Escuder, PHD, Whitney Rawls, and Chief Constance Stanley.

As a result of super team work headed by Dr. Traci P. Baxley, numerous FAU Faculty and students, 8 staff from Dillard Elementary headed by Mrs Angela Brown and funding from our Ranger Good Works donors, the event was an outstanding success!!!

THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING RGW IN OUR MISSION TO PROVIDE THE BEST EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCES POSSIBLE FOR THE DILLARD ELEMENTARY STUDENTS!

Amar’e Stoudemire & HEAT Staff Distributed School Supplies & Gifts to Students

The Miami HEAT kicked off the 2015-16 school year in Broward County by welcoming back the students and teachers at Dillard Elementary School today. HEAT player Amar’e Stoudemire along with HEAT mascot, Burnie, and Uptown Dale hosted a pep rally at the school and distributed backpacks and other school supplies. Broward County Public Schools Superintendent Robert W. Runcie, Florida State District 31 Senator, Christopher L. Smith, Vice Mayor of the City of Fort Lauderdale and District 3 Commissioner, Robert L. McKinzie, Florida State District 94, Representative Bobby B. Dubose as well as caring School Board Members and Victoria Ranger from Ranger Good Works were in attendance. The HEAT selected Dillard Elementary School because of its great academic accomplishments and the strong support it receives from the community and dedicated staff. Under the leadership of Principal Angela Brown, winner of the 2015 Broward County Public Schools Caliber Award for Principal of the Year, Dillard Elementary School has increased enrollment by 100% in three years to over 800 students in 2014-15. Dillard Elementary was also recently removed from the lowest 100 performing school list in the State of Florida, as academic growth was shown in all the areas of reading, math and science. The school has also created a variety of beneficial programs for their students, including a program giving students the opportunity to tour major universities and mentoring programs ensuring that students receive the skills needed for their future. *We look forward to another exciting school year at Dillard Elementary. Ranger Good Works proudly sponsors an up and coming artist from Dillard Elementary School.   During the Community Reception and the official unveiling of a collaborative student mural project at FAT Village Art District a competition was held at the Fat Village Center for the Arts. One lucky child was awarded a scholarship for the summer art program. In an effort to aid in keeping children engaged in after school programs and foster creativity from them RGW has made a commitment to give scholarships.  To participate or donate to the summer arts scholarship program contact us.

FAT Village and Ranger Good Works partner for Dillard Elementary and the City of Ft. Lauderdale
The City of Ft. Lauderdale is an official “All America City” title holder. It is Ranger Good Works’ pleasure to lend a hand when called upon and ask for help from the community to support our youth. We are planning an event to showcase just how big our city’s heart is by painting a mural in the FAT Village Art District (downtown Ft. Lauderdale). The mural will be painted by a local artist and several students from Dillard’s Art Program and will be unveiled during the reception. You’re invited to share this experience with us and enjoy live entertainment, performances from Dillard and much more. This event is free and open to the public, therefore, invite your friends and family!

Career City 2015

On Thursday, May 7, 2015 we accomplished our goal by delivering on the promise to inspire and show the students that they have a future. Although they are young, they can dream and work hard to achieve their goals bringing their dreams to fruition. Throughout the day we heard students say “this is the best day of my life”; “I can’t believe how big the city really is” and “I never got this many presents, even on my birthday.” Several comments I heard about were, “I love to draw… I didn’t know I could become an architect. I’m good at drawing. I think I can be an architect!” (Martin Architects); “I love to play games. I didn’t know I could have a job coding games, I want to be a programmer.” (Nova Southeastern University – Computer Science School); “I love clothes; I’m going to work at Neiman Marcus.” (Neiman Marcus) and “Mrs. Ranger, do you think I can be a drummer like the kids on the stage from Parkway Middle School?” My answer was “yes, talk to Mr. Morrison about it and I bet he can help you get started now.” (Victoria Ranger).

With these positive thoughts, we will close by saying thank you again! Thank you for trusting us and for investing your time in our program. We look forward to having you join us again next year for our third annual Career City at Dillard Elementary.

Junior Welfare Society Visits Dillard

Junior Welfare Society visited Dillard Elementary School.

Lots of helping hands and eyes were there to aid the young students in reading. Thank you Junior Welfare Society!

On April 28, 2015 Ranger Good Works and Dillard Elementary hosted a visit for several members of the Junior Welfare Society. The wonderful members brought donations, read books to the young students and even helped the administrative team organize the science lab. A big “thank you” goes out to all of them for the love, hugs and smiles given, the great amount of hands on support and the financial support given for the literacy and technology initiatives.

Impact Girls Gala

Impact Girls Gala – 2015

Impact Girls Gala

Impact Girls Gala

On April 24 2015, we had the honor of attending the Impact Girl’s Spring Gala and Awards dinner alongside our partner, Neiman Marcus. The event featured live performances, a fashion show presented by the students and concluded with an award ceremony. Ranger Good works is extremely proud of club leader, Ms. Angela Dix, and her ability to empower the lives of such young girls. It was very inspiring to witness firsthand how dedicated and disciplined the Impact girls are. As our bond with Dillard continues to grow, so does our passion for watching each one of them transform into beautiful butterflies.
Congrats Impact Girls!
